Ellen Page

Actress

Date of Birth: 1987-02-21, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Height: 5' 1" (1.55 m)

With a name like Ellen Philpotts-Page it's a wonder this rising star hasn't ended up in the 'Harry Potter' franchise, but it's hard to be dissatisfied with her career to date. At only 20 years old, Page has starred in several notable films, received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, and is topping lists of the most promising stars of tomorrow.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on February 21, 1987, the pint-sized Canadian actress (she stands at 5'1) grew up in her town of birth with parents Martha Philpotts and Dennis Page, a teacher and graphic designer respectively. Her screen career began at the age of 10 with various Canadian projects including the TV film 'Pit Pony,' the series 'Trailer Park Boys,' and 'ReGenesis.' Her Hollywood breakthrough came in 2005 with the starring role in the disturbing indie thriller 'Hard Candy,' in which Page portrayed a resourceful young girl who plays a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a purported pedophile played by 'Little Children' star Patrick Wilson. Page's performance was at turns gut-wrenching, vulnerable, and totally terrifying, earning her the attention of the industry despite the film's lack of box office success.

After being convinced by director Brett Ratner to take the role, Page took on an entertaining supporting turn in 'X-Men: The Last Stand' as Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, and also appeared in the controversial Sundance entry 'An American Crime' with Catherine Keener. The film has been bounced around the distribution circle, and will finally premiere as a TV film on Showtime in 2008. But Page's primary claim to fame to date is inarguably her title role in 'Juno,' Jason Reitman's touching, hilarious film about a teen girl who gets pregnant after a night of awkward sex with her nerdy boyfriend Paulie (a terrific Michael Cera). 'Juno' has scored four Oscar nominations including a Best Actress nod for Page, and has garnered the young star some of the best reviews of the year.

Page is well on her way to major stardom, and will appear next in 'Smart People,' an ensemble comedy starring Dennis Quaid, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Thomas Haden Church.
