Somehow, Adam Sandler has been able to etch a career out of the same schtick -- and bring in the coin.  He has starred in a remarkable seven films that have each grossed over $100 million in the U.S. - all in less than ten years. Born in Brooklyn on September 9, 1966, Sandler started sharing his comedic gifts in the mid-80s, playing the goofy Smitty for a few episodes on 'The Cosby Show,' frequently appearing on MTV's now-dated game show-comedy hybrid 'Remote Control,’ and working the standup circuit -- all while attending New York University. After seeing Sandler’s standup in L.A. in 1990, Dennis Miller saw enormous potential in the fresh-faced comedian and recommended him to 'SNL' producer Lorne Michaels. Sandler quickly became one of the most popular cast members in the show's history, with memorable characters like 'Lucy Brawn' and the 'Herlihy Boy.' His hilarious songs, including the legendary 'Chanukah Song,' led to a best-selling comedy CD.

Sandler left 'SNL' in 1995 to focus on movies. His first star features, 'Billy Madison' and 'Happy Gilmore,' were both modest hits that have since become cult comedy classics.  Bob Barker’s beating Sandler to the tune of “The Price is Wrong, Bitch!” was a singular turning point in his popularity, but it wasn’t until 1998's 'The Wedding Singer' with Drew Barrymore that he hit the big time.  ‘Wedding Singer’ doubled the box office success of his previous offerings, and his follow-ups 'The Waterboy' and ‘Big Daddy’ became surprise blockbusters.  2000 marked Sandler’s first rough patch with big-budget stinker 'Little Nicky.'

2002 was a mini-revival for Sandler.  He starred in both Paul Thomas Anderson's weirdly touching screwball romance 'Punch-Drunk Love' and the comedy hit 'Mr. Deeds' with Winona Ryder.  The former earned him dramatic respect, which he has since been unable to recapture.  ‘Mr. Deeds,’ though, was a return to tried-and-true comic form.  Thus followed the odd match-up with Jack Nicholson in ‘Anger Management,’ a surprise hit.

Sandler has made a string of comedy hits since, reteaming with Barrymore in ’50 First Dates;’ a remake of the football classic ‘The Longest Yard’ with Chris Rock; sci-fi comedy ‘Click’ with Kate Beckinsale; 'Reign Over Me,' a drama co-starring Don Cheadle, Jada Pinkett Smith, Liv Tyler, and Donald Sutherland; and faux-gay marriage spoof ‘I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry’ with Kevin James and Jessica Biel. 2008’s ‘You Don’t Mess With the Zohan’ was a huge fumble, but Sandler hopes to recapture the magic with ‘Bedtime Stories’ and ‘Funny People.’
