Curses Of A ‘Fool’

I simply don’t believe celebrities who go out of their way to act like they’re just regular folk.

Daniel Craig took a few moments away from filming the new James Bond flick ‘Quantum of Solace’ to attend the London premiere of his latest release ‘Flashbacks of a Fool.’

Craig has always been very publicly uncomfortable with his celebrity, taking pains to show that he’s really just in all of this for the art. Wondering aloud why anyone cares about the thoughts of a mere “actor.”

First of all, if you’re in it for the art, why the heck are you playing James Bond? The series isn’t exactly known for its chiaroscuro lighting and sparse, emotion-filled moments.

Then there’s this latest project. A small, independent British number directed by his friend Baillie Walsh, better known for his band documentaries. Even the subject of the film is about the downside of celebrity. Craig plays a fading movie star who drowns his sorrow in an indulgent lifestyle. Boo-hoo.

Then, at the British press conference, Craig throws the C-word around like a beach ball. And I don’t mean “crabcakes.” Even the actor began to notice how un-Bondsman like his behavior had become.

“At least I can swear now,” he said, “I've been doing television interviews, and they said, 'Please don't swear, this is all pre- watershed.' And all I can think about is the swear words in my head. It's like having Tourette's."

If Craig wants to be just one of the guys, just be one. Stop acting. Otherwise, try to enjoy it.

Then again, he could always try and take the polish off Bond. How’s this for dialogue, “The name’s Bond. James effing Bond.”
