Lincoln Center Honors Meryl Streep

Isn’t Meryl Streep’s mantel crowded enough? She has two Oscars, one for ‘Sophie’s Choice’ and another for ‘Kramer vs. Kramer,’ and has been nominated 14 times. She’s won six Golden Globes, two Emmys, six People’s Choice Awards, AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award, a Berlin Bear, Cannes’s Best Actress award, and four Los Angeles and three New York Film Critic’s Awards.

And those just scratch the surface. There are tons of other awards and nominations from festivals from London to Moscow, from SAG, the Hasty Pudding Club, and Outfest. I think people create special societies just as an excuse to have Streep to dinner.

On Monday, the Film Society of Lincoln Center honored the legendary actress with another statuette for a lifetime of luminous film roles. She joins a long list of honorees starting with Charlie Chaplin and including Fred Astaire, Alfred Hitchcock, Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, Jane Fonda, and Diane Keaton.

I get exhausted just thinking about all that dusting.
