‘Water’ All Wet

Someone has finally found the New Age magic bullet. They’ve managed to combine the pseudo-religious mysticism of ‘The Secret’ with the trendy global warming eco-consumerism of the Prius.

The result is a short film called ‘Water’ ostensibly credited to Leonardo DiCaprio, although it was actually made by Russian director Saida Medevedeva. The film, which premiered Thursday night in Los Angeles, claims to detail groundbreaking new scientific discoveries about water, including things like that water connects all of us and that our thoughts can actually change its structure. Sound familiar? It’s the soggy side of ‘The Secret.’

Proceeds from the premiere go to support The Love Planet Foundation, which claims to dedicate itself to launching new events and fundraisers to inspire social and environmental awareness. Like we need another one of those. Its vision statement is so wide and vast that it’s hard to tell exactly what the foundation does.

The real purpose of all this, it seems, is to introduce Hollywood’s tree-hugging, water-chugging, New Age nouveau riche to a new spring water, H2Om. Pronounced “H 2 OHM,” as in what you chant while you’re meditating.

They call it water with intention. And get this marketing drivel: “The world’s first interactive natural spring water. Infused with the power of positive energy through words, music, colors, symbols and your own personal interaction.”

What this means is that they print positive words on the bottle that you’re supposed to concentrate on while consuming, or as the slogan says, “Think it while you drink it.”

Spring water, save the planet activism, and New Age baloney all stuffed into one little bottle. Freaking marketing genius. Those bleeding heart Hollywood lemmings will be lining up to drink this Kool- Aid.
