Kanye’s Ego Trip Tour

It’s confirmed. Kanye West is out-of-control. His new Glow in the Dark Tour kicked off this weekend, opening with Rihanna, N.E.R.D., and Lupe Fiasco. In it, he does something that at first seems rather bold. By the end, it’s just rather old.

Adapting the long-time tradition of one-man shows from Broadway, West performs alone while the band is relegated to a pit at the foot of the stage. The “story” behind the show is this: West sets out alone on a trip through space searching for creativity, but a sudden meteor shower that forces to crash land on an unknown planet.

Stop laughing. It gets better.

He is awakened by the offstage computerized voice of his spaceship Jane. (It’s a good thing he’s looking for creativity. He ripped off the name of the girl in his first grade primer and the idea behind Hasselhoff’s “Knight Rider” series with one shot.)

West’s conversations with Jane allow him to indulge in a hip-hop retrospective of the life events which have shaped the self-obsessed man you have paid to see tonight.

And the end result of this little voyage to the center of the ego?

"We've been on this journey so long — we can't give up now,” says Jane, “We need the brightest star in the universe: You, Kanye. We need you. Only you can bring us home. You can glow in the dark."

I’m all for helping a child created a positive self-image, but I think Donda gave this boy way too much love.
