If Cher could turn back time, she and Tom Cruise might have been more than just a fling. The 61-year-old diva, whose career has been jumpstarted more often than Dick Cheney’s heart, confessed to Oprah Winfrey that she and Cruise became an item just as his star was beginning to rise.
"It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him,"
said the former Mrs. Bono.
The two were rumored to have met at a White House fundraising event when he was 23 and she was a mere slip of a thing at 39.
Cher confessed that conflicting schedules forced them apart, but rumor has it that the relationship ended when the Scientology evangelist met his first wife Mimi Rogers.
Cruise, who recently announced plans for a fourth ‘Mission Impossible, is himself scheduled to rap with the billion-dollar talkstress shortly, his first appearance on ‘Oprah’ since the infamous couch- jumping episode. Perhaps he’ll share his side of the Cher affair. Then he can settle those rumors about his trysts with Bette Midler, Liza Minnelli, and Ethel Merman.
