Renee Zellweger cracks me up. She has such a way with handling people.
When the paparazzi descend upon a star like a swarm of bees, they bombard the poor thing with a barrage of flashbulbs and questions. Usually embarrassing, rude ones.
According to TMZ, the other day at LAX, Zellweger stayed perfectly calm, reached into her little backpack and quietly handed what looked like a business card to an annoying pap. The card read only, “Stop talking.” Then she walked away.
That is classic! And classy. Much more effective than getting angry. And shows an uncanny ability to plan ahead. She has a knack for knocking people off their game simply by being nice.
When Kathy Griffin made fun of her, for instance, Zellweger sent her a huge bouquet of flowers. No card this time, just her name. Griffin freaked out for weeks trying to figure out what the message was. Was it a threat? A peace offering?
Like the “Stop Talking” card, it was a mind game. There’s actually a less polite word for it, but I think Zellweger would object to resorting to anything so crass.
