After seeing the houseplant Sarah Jessica Parker mistook for a hat yesterday, I have a bit more sympathy for Maxim. The magazine released its list of the Hot 100 for 2008 on Wednesday.
Ordinarily, I think these celebrity lists are a silly, childish, and immature waste of time. But that’s sort of Maxim’s brand image, so it gets a pass. It’s sort of like Steve O and the other ‘Jackass’ boys. They make no bones about being blatant sexist idiots, and I respect that kind of honesty.
On to the list. #1 is Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Marisa Miller. Big shock. Scarlett Johansson is #2, Jessica Biel #3. I was genuinely surprised to find Charlize Theron land at #11. I’d’ve thought that her intelligence was too threatening for the boys at Maxim. The sentiment for Britney Spears, who landed at #19, borders on, dare I say it, sweet:
“We’re still pulling for the pop tart turned punch line,” the article reads. “The girl still oozes genuine sexiness, and if anyone can make a comeback, it’s her.”
Almost brings a tear to your eye, don’t it? If they stop that whole “Unsexiest” silliness, I might believe the editors at Maxim have a heart beneath all of that cleavage.
