Katie Holmes Hits Broadway

The producers of the revival of ‘All My Sons’ have done several smart things. First, they picked a great play, Arthur Miller’s first big hit.

Second, they’ve assembled some fine actors. John Lithgow plays the lead, businessman Joe Keller whose factory supplied defective parts to the military during WWII causing the deaths of 21 pilots. Keller lets his business partner take the fall. Diane Wiest plays his wife and Patrick Wilson his son. A truly gifted cast.

But the greatest stroke of genius was casting Katie Holmes as the son’s girlfriend. The curiosity factor is sure to generate box office, and it’s already produced tons of publicity before rehearsals have even begun.

The only question is, what part exactly is it that warrants her sharing the boards with the likes of Wiest and Lithgow? Her memorable turn in ‘First Daughter?’ Perhaps the incredible range she showed in ‘Teaching Mrs. Tingle.’ Not that I’m knocking her talent, but don’t we all know that the role that landed her this gig was Mrs. Tom Cruise?
