Simon Cowell is a fickle little thing.
During an interview with the recently engaged Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, the nastiest ‘AI’ judge said he thought David Cook was going to take the title.
At the time, that was a bold statement. Most sports books had David Archuleta as the favorite. Interestingly, votefortheworst.com (the website that made Sanjaya famous) has Archuleta as its favorite, too. Which would make Cook the better singer, so I guess the site agrees with Cowell, too. DeGeneres agreed with him, too, by the way.
The two Davids had their final showdown later on Tuesday. And David Archuletta pretty much blew David Cook out of the water. Although I guess I should’ve used a tired boxing metaphor in order to stay with the show’s overused theme.
That was when Simon changed his tune. After Archuleta reprised his version of John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Cowell, in keeping with the lame prize fight concept, said that the teen savant landed “a knockout.”
But such flip-flopping is par for the season. It’s been a weird, uneven little adventure. Tomorrow, it will be over, and we can forget all about both David Cook and David Archuleta and look forward to next year.
