I was getting kind of bored with ‘The View.’ Without Rosie to stir things up, the show had started to lose its luster. Whoopi Goldberg is too mellow.
Unless, it appears, something really gets to her. It seems Denise Richards’ new reality show does. Richards was on the show Wednesday to promote the premiere of ‘It’s Complicated.’
You may recall this as the show that caused Richards’ ex-husband Charlie Sheen to file an injunction to stop production. He also allegedly threatened to punch out producer Ryan Seacrest’s unnaturally white teeth.
The reason is that the couple’s young children are featured on the show, and Sheen didn’t want to expose them to the public for both their mental health and physical safety.
Goldberg took up Sheen’s gauntlet.
“If you want to protect your children, as you say you do, why would you take a reality show?” she asked. “Is it money?”
“They’re in it very minimal,” replied grammarian Richards, “I’ve been singled out. Every reality show about a family has kids.”
Joy Behar, Sherri Shepherd, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck were visibly uncomfortable and tried to break in with softer questions. Whoopi hung on like a bulldog.
“But they were there,” Goldberg countered. “These are little kids. You’re going through this huge thing, and I’m just wondering if the timing might not be great.”
“I’ve had a horrible last three years,” said Richards. “I lost my mother to cancer. So my mom really wanted me to do the show. She was wanting the public to see who I really am.”
So Richards plans on honoring her mother’s memory by parading her private life on television for money and exploiting the deceased woman’s grandchildren. What a touching tribute. And what lovely insight into who she really is.
