Gavin Rossdale WANDERs Into The Light

I guess you can only be called “Mr. Stefani” for so long before it starts to prickle. Former Bush front man Gavin Rossdale has planned a Sweet Escape of his own from beneath wife Gwen Stefani’s shadow. It’s about time.

Rossdale returns sans band with “WANDERlust,” his first solo album. The release party was held in New York City's Hard Rock Cafe on Tuesday, where performed the first release "Love Remains the Same."

While Bush’s music owed a great debt to Nirvana (as did every post-grunge band), Rossdale’s new sound is mature, polished, and surprisingly mellow at times. It’s a stunning debut album, although one perhaps more suited to VH-1 than MTV. But with a wife, a kid, and a baby on the way, perhaps that’s to be expected. Most Bush fans probably have families of their own by now and will respond to the sincerity and vulnerability.

Time seems to have given Rossdale a luster and sheen, but I can’t help wishing that he didn’t come into the sun sooner.
