What’s a little rain when Girlicious and Rhianna are performing at Canada’s biggest street party? For more than a decade, music fans have gathered at Queen Street West in Toronto for the MMVAs, and Sunday night was no exception.
Rhianna took home both awards for which she was nominated: Most Watched Video for “Umbrella” and Best International Video for “Don’t Stop the Music.” B.C. rockers Hedley were the night’s other big winners.
Also appearing live was the recently reunited boy band New Kids On The Block. Although Old Has Beens On The Block might be an more appropriate name these days, the crowd didn’t seem to mind the flat notes and tired dance moves.
Fans were probably more concerned with running into and out of MuchMusic HQ to avoid the sporadic downpours. The ironically-named Rainn Wilson, one of the evening’s presenters, was caught in one of the mad rushes. Those taking cover in the media room were chagrined to discover that the ceiling had sprung a few leaks. But the torrents did nothing to dampen the libido of presenter Brody Jenner.
“Canadian women are the hottest girls in the world,” he told a squealing group of red carpet fans. “Down-to-earth, laid back... I love Canadian women.”
I can see why they were squealing. He has such a gift for poetry.
