This is what we’ve all been waiting for. After days and days of men’s fashion (yawn!), the 2009 haute couture finally came out of the closet at Paris Fashion Week on Monday.
Everyone from Janet Jackson and Liv Tyler to Eva Mendes and Claudia Schiffer were there to check out the latest rags from Dior and Chanel. And what fine rags they were. Sleek, swirly, frilly, romantic, classic. There was a definite twenties and thirties vibe going on. Almost flapper-ish.
Chanel was especially monochromatic. It’s almost as if the clothes jumped out of an old Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers flick. I have to admit, it’s one of the first shows I’ve seen where I could actually imagine wearing some it in public. I wonder, though. How many of the celebs actually buy anything or whether they just show up to figure out what they want to borrow for the next awards show.
