MBFW Miami Swim: Luli Fama 2009 Collection

Lourdes and Augusto Hanimian, a.k.a. Luli Fama, have done it again. Created a line of gorgeous swimsuits you shouldn’t get wet.

The couple is notorious for creating brilliant bikinis and cover-ups using fine imported fabrics, jewels, and Swarovski crystals. Their designs are staples of the ‘Sports Illustrated’ swimsuit cover, and have graced the pages of ‘Vogue’ and ‘Cosmo,’ and the bodies of supermodels like Gisele Bundchen.

But I wouldn’t wear it in the water. One big wave, and those jewels are coming off. Probably the bikini, too.

Not that those most likely to wear a Luli do much swimming anyhow. It’s hard to do the butterfly in heels. These are for teetering around the pool with a martini and posing seductively on a lounge chair. The most agua these suits are likely to see is a glistening mist of perspiration. Which is just fine with the Luli Fama target market. When you've spent two hours applying that natural, poolside look, why would you go in the water?
