Longoria Announces ALMA Awards

Never one to miss a photo op, Eva Longoria Parker called a press conference Monday to announce this year’s ALMA Awards with Cristián de la Fuente. Parker, who’s executive producing and hosting the awards again, graciously took herself out of the running so that some of Hollywood’s less spotlight-seeking talent could have a shot.

"Everybody knows ‘Desperate Housewives,’” (thanks in no small part to the newly-bobbed, one-woman publicity machine herself) she said. “Let's recognize the people that you may not know on certain shows.”

Those unknowns include Tony-winner Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on the obscure medical drama ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ up-and-coming actor Charlie Sheen, a perky pop music upstart named Shakira, and the cast of a little show called ‘Ugly Betty.’ Also on the list is a little-known actor named Ricardo Chavira, who just happens to play Longoria’s husband Carlos on ‘Housewives.’

The ALMAs recognize the contribution of Latinos in entertainment and air September 12.
