Victoria Beckham is a British singer, fashion designer and as they say in the business model/actress. Born Victoria Caroline Adams on April 17th, 1974 she is probably best known as Posh Spice, of the girl super band the Spice Girls. She is also known as Mrs. David Beckham the soccer playing metrosexual pin up man.
As a child, the story goes, Victoria watched the move Fame and decided her lifelong goal was to be famous. She attended the Laine Theater Arts College and studies singing and dancing. She was on her way. The first band that she was in was called Persuasion.
In 1994, she joined a new band called Touch. They later changed their name to the Spice Girls and their single, “Wannabe” went to number one in both the UK and the US. They had a total of eight other number one songs from their three albums, Spice, Spiceworld and Forever. Victoria Adams became Posh Spice and the Spice Girls became one of the most successful pop acts of the 1990s and sold over fifty five million albums globally.
In 1997 she began dating David Beckham, midfielder for Manchester United. Soon after, they became known as Posh and Becks by the media and announced their engagement in 1998. They married in Luttrelltown Castle in Ireland in July of 1999. Their four month old son Brooklyn, was the ring bearer. The reception was reported to be lavish and the guest list very exclusive. It was THE social event of that season. After the wedding the couple retired to their newly renovated manse on 24 acres, dubbed Beckingham Palace.
Learning to Fly, Beckham’s memoir, was published and released in September of 2001. In it she wrote about her life, career, her tenure with the Spice Girls and marriage. It became the third most popular nonfiction title in 2001 and sold more than half a million copies in the UK alone. Her second book, That Extra Half an Inch: Hair, Heels, and Everything in Between a guide to fashion also became a best seller in the UK.
Beckham has dabbled in reality television since her first “reality documentary” Victoria’s Secrets in 2000. She went on to produce and ‘star’ in four more, including The Real Beckhams which chronicled the family’s move to Madrid in 2003. The special garnered an audience of over 6 million viewers and was released at a later date on DVD.
NBC signed Beckham to a six-episode reality series about their move to America. It was eventually shortened to a one hour special and met with sneers and jeers from the critics.
