Ryan Seacrest

TV Host

Date of Birth: 1974-12-24, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Height: 5' 8" (1.73 m)

It's a good thing radio and television personality Ryan Seacrest hosts 'American Idol'. Without his good humor, striking looks, and effortlessly relaxed demeanor, the contestants just might buckle under the pressure of criticism from famed judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson.

Born in Dunwoody, Georgia on December 24, 1974, Seacrest was raised in Atlanta, and began a successful career in broadcasting when he was just 16, serving as an evening host for popular Atlanta top 40 station WSTR FM. Seacrest went on to the University of Georgia, where he majored in journalism and managed to keep up a busy professional schedule when not in class. He hosted a weekend morning television show for CNET that discussed new technology in the infant years of the Internet, and also hosted ESPN's 'Radical Outdoor Challenge'. Several more prominent television gigs, including co-hosting the syndicated 'Gladiators 2000' with MTV's Maria Sansone, led to Seacrest taking on co-hosting duties for 'American Idol' with Brian Dunkleman in 2002. By the second season of the smash reality/talent-search program, Seacrest was hosting the show solo, and has since become a major part of its success. His undying support for the star-struck contestants has made him a beloved and stable element of the program, and his exchange of quips with Simon Cowell and recent backstage feuds with Paula Abdul have kept him in the headlines.

Seacrest continues to be a major radio personality as well, and on January 10, 2004 was given the legendary Casey Kasem's job as the host of 'American Top 40'. Since early 2004 he has also hosted 'On Air with Ryan Seacrest', Los Angeles-based KIIS-FM's morning show, which was previously hosted by Rick Dees. 2005 saw Seacrest begin his tenure as a co-host and executive producer of 'Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve'. After Clark's retirement, Seacrest will take over solo hosting duties of the long-running New Year's Eve variety program.

Television personalities as talented and hard-working as Seacrest have unpredictable careers, so it's hard to say what direction he'll go in next. If he wants to become one of the most famous faces in television, rest assured he'll get his wish. That is, if he hasn't already.
